Add Background Video in React Native

add background video in react native

In this tutorial we are going to see how to add a fullscreen background video in React Native.

The first thing we’ll do is to add the react-native-video dependency to our project. You can read more about that dependency.

I assume you’re not new to React Native and that you already have your project set up. If you’re just beginning to learn React Native or Software development programs, you can download the Codeflare mobile app there are comprehensive coding lessons that you can take and quizzes that you can try as well.

Now let’s continue. Run the following command on your terminal at the root of your project:

yarn add react-native-video

Next, you need to specify the video you want to add to your project and add as follows:

import Video from 'react-native-video';
import horror from '../assets/videos/horror.mp4';

<Video
source={video}
ref={ref => {
this.player = ref;
}}
resizeMode="cover"
repeat
muted
onBuffer={this.onBuffer}
onError={this.videoError}
style={styles.backgroundVideo}
/>

const styles = StyleSheet.create({
backgroundVideo: {
    position: 'absolute',
    top: 0,
    left: 0,
    bottom: 0,
    right: 0,
    height: '100%'
  }
});
