Apple is set to make its streaming service, Apple TV+, free for all users during the first weekend of January in a global promotional effort. From January 3 to 5, anyone with an Apple ID can access Apple TV+ on any compatible device without charge. Typically priced at $9.99 per month, the service is also available as part of bundled plans that include Apple Music, video games, cloud storage, and other offerings.

This free streaming event coincides with the latest episodes of popular shows like Bad Sisters and Shrinking, whose seasons concluded earlier this month. The ongoing season of the sci-fi series Silo will also be available during the promotion. Additionally, Apple is expected to spotlight the highly anticipated second season of Severance, which premieres on January 17.

The move mirrors traditional free-preview weekends once offered by premium cable networks and more recent campaigns by other streaming platforms like Netflix. Launched in November 2019, Apple TV+ has become a significant part of Apple’s growing services division. While Apple does not disclose specific subscriber counts for Apple TV+, its services revenue reached $25 billion in the quarter ending September 30, with an impressive 74% gross margin. Services now account for about one-quarter of Apple’s overall revenue. Join the next software development cohort.

Beyond driving interest in its broader services ecosystem, Apple TV+ also enhances engagement with the Apple TV app, the company’s central hub for streaming content. Even without an Apple TV+ subscription, users can rent, buy, or subscribe to various shows and movies through the app. Apple has also expanded its reach by offering select sports programming for free as part of its growing investment in live sports rights.

This free weekend is expected to attract new viewers and further solidify Apple TV+ as a leading contender in the streaming space. Are you searching for where to learn software development in Abuja, Nigeria? Codeflare has got software development training programs you should checkout
